Located in the attractive village of Draycott, near Cheddar, Street Farm provides a home and holistic learning environment where a small group of women with learning disabilities can develop their skills to enable them to live as independently as possible in the wider community.
This may involve individuals being placed on a more short-term basis and moving on to supported living style accommodation, such as our apartments at Silver Tree Lodge in Weston-Super-Mare.
Street Farm is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The age range is 18 to 65 and our registration category is LD (learning difficulties) with a variation in category to include support for mental health needs.
The home provides support exclusively for female service users. We have the facility for eleven service users supported by an all female staff team providing 24 hour cover.
In order to support service users to develop their skills, Street Farm has strong links with Badgworth Equestrian Centre. This facility is a well renowned riding school fifteen minutes drive from Draycott. Badgworth offers the opportunity for service users to work towards qualifications in horse care. Those who currently attend the centre have the opportunity to ride, drive the horses and learn skills in horse care. Street Farm works alongside Badgworth in carefully monitoring and recording the progress of each service user.
We also access the local community to complement our home based activities; this includes using both Wells and Cheddar leisure centres and the adult learning facilities at Wells and Burnham-On-Sea colleges which provide us with specialist educational courses such as computer skills and drama classes. Many of our service users also attend the local Gateway club.
Street Farm actively encourages our service users to gain work placements. This helps to broaden their skills and develop social links within the community. Current placements include the British Heart Foundation, Weston Hospice, The Good Earth Coffee Shop, Burcott Riding Stables, Sue Ryder, Heads Up, Kennels and local Cattery.
